Calling all adventurers!

Carson City has over 30 city parks, over 70 miles of trail and over 8,000 acres of Open Space; that's some incredible exploring potential! As a kid in Carson City, it's important to learn responsible outdoor recreation, history of our natural areas and proper outdoor safety so that you can pass on the information to your friends and family. It's easy to become a Jr. Ranger, just follow the steps below and a Carson City Park Ranger will be happy to swear you in as an official Jr. Park Ranger!

Get your FREE Adventure Guide

The first step to becoming a Jr. Ranger is to get your Carson City Junior Park Ranger Adventure Guide. There a few ways you can get one:

  1. Pick up an Adventure Guide at the Parks Administration Office: 3303 Butti Way, Carson City, Nevada 89701.
  2. Join a Park Ranger on one of the many Park Ranger-Led Programs throughout the year and ask for your copy.
  3. Or download a printable copy right here!

Completing the Requirements

Next step, work through your new adventure guide! You'll want to complete as many of the pages as you can; if you need help, use the resources at the bottom of this page. (These instructions are based off of the newest Adventure Guide version: 2022)

Work with your parent, teacher or Park Ranger to plan your own adventure on page 4. It's important to know where you are going, what to expect, and how long you will be gone so you can tell someone else your plan. If something happens, someone will know your location.

Join a Park Ranger at Carson River Park to complete the orienteering section starting on page 6. You can also try completing this activity on your own. Travel around Carson River Park using the map on page 7 and a compass if you have one. Find all of the items listed on the map and something else that you found interesting.

Participate in at least three outdoor activities listed on Page 8. Try your best to name the Carson City location where you completed the activity. If you participated in an activity that isn't listed, write it down on the bottom, it still counts!

The final requirement to complete the adventure guide is to join a Park Ranger on at least one Park Ranger-Led activity. You can also use that time to ask questions about the Adventure Guide and complete page 16, interview a Park Ranger.
